Apple Announces $4,999 6K Pro Display XDR

At WWDC 2019 Apple has announced new Pro Display XDR along with new redesigned Mac Pro. Pro Display XDR is a 32-inch display with stunning 6K resolution (6,016 x 3,384). It has an almost edge to edge display with only 9mm bezels. Here are some technical specs

The monitor features HDR AKA High Dynamic Range. To show HDR picture correctly a monitor needs high contrast. Pro XDR can deliver 1000 nits brightness constantly with a peak brightness of 1600 nits. Apple says they have delivered this performance with an advanced cooling system. It has the same “cheese grater” styling on the back as the Mac Pro, which acts as a heat sink.  

The Apple Pro Display XDR has full-array backlighting 576 zones of full array local dimming. This results in the incredibly high 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The Pro Display XDR, which means extreme dynamic range, has P3 and 10-bit color with reference modes built in, as well as Apple’s True Tone automatic color adjustment for ambient lighting. Pre-set reference modes include HDR video (P3-ST 2084), Digital Cinema (P3-DCI) and Photography (P3-D65).

Pro Display XDR is Apple’s largest retina display ever. It’s 40 percent larger than the iMac 5K display. Apple has also improved the screen to better control reflections and offers a new matte option called “nano-texture, with glass etched at the nanometer level for low reflectivity and less glare.”

The Pro Stand helps precision tilting and 120 mm of height adjustment help Pro Display XDR adapt to any viewing condition. With the help of the stand, you can also use the display in the portrait mode. According to Apple, this Pro Stand makes Pro XDR “virtually weightless”. Pro Display XDR is attached to the stand with the help of magnet so that it can be detached easily. It also has the option of VESA mount. It uses a Thunderbolt 3 cable to connect to the Mac Pro, which can support up to six displays means 120 million pixels.

The base model of Pro Display XDR priced at whopping $4999. While you have to pay as much as $5999 for the nano-textured version. Although it doesn’t come with a stand. You have to $999 to buy the stand separately. For the VESA mount, it will cost $199. Pro Display XDR will be available in this fall along with Mac Pro.
