Xiaomi distributes their own version of customized Android OS called MIUI. MIUI brings new features and customization that are not even available in pure Android version. Before bringing new in all devices Xiaomi first test the feature in closed beta then in public beta and after that, they bring it on the stable version of MIUI. But Xiaomi is going to change this process to focus on only new smartphone and they will exclude budget smartphone from the list.
In a post in MIUI forum, Xiaomi stated that they will now be limiting MIUI betas to smartphones which are less than a year old. Smartphones that are older than a year will be withdrawn from the beta program and only stable version will be provided. This decision will not impact the development of stable versions of MIUI for Xiaomi and Redmi devices.
Xiaomi has also decided that they will not provide any beta at all for the budget redmi devices. Xiaomi has not given any list of the phones which will be affected by this decision. But one may expect that it will affect phones like Redmi 7 or Redmi 7A. Although Xiaomi has promised that these phones will get the stable version.
It should be noted that this decision is only meant for devices in China. At this moment we don’t know how it will affect the Redmi devices in other region and the global version of Redmi devices.
