MIUI‘s Mi Gallery app is adding in support for viewing 108MP photos in full resolution. But this support is added in specifically for devices codenamed “tucana“, “draco“, “umi” and “cmi“. All four are the unreleased device from Xiaomi. The included sensors will probably be the new Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensors because Sony doesn’t have any sensor in this category.
This would be the first mobile camera sensor to exceed 100MP and was designed in collaboration between Xiaomi and Samsung. Samsung says the sensor can absorb more light in low-light settings than smaller sensors thanks to its pixel-merging Tetracell technology. The sensor imitates big-pixel sensors and produces brighter 27MP images.
There is no official confirmation of the news from Samsung or Xiaomi. But from early August Samsung has started mass production of the sensor so hopefully, we will soon see a phone with 108MP camera.
