Microsoft Cortana was launched as a stiff competitor to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. But over time it lost its significance as a voice assistant to Google and Amazon’s one. And finally, after January 2020 Microsoft is dropping support for the dedicated Android and iOS app in most of the market.
Cortana used to be limited to Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system and Microsoft’s ecosystem in general, but back in late 2015, the company released apps on iOS and Android. But after seeing the declining popularity of the app Microsoft is going to be dropped in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Mexico, China, Spain, and India. Microsoft will also remove Cortana from Microsoft Launcher app on Android.
Microsoft says that they are not completely killing Cortana as it will be integrated with the Microsoft 365 suite of productivity apps. Although Cortana for iOS and Android app will continue to operate in the US after January 31st, it is not clear for how long.
