Design

OnePlus 7 Pro has a 6.67 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440, 516 ppi and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate. Crucially, you can’t get this screen in an iPhone, Galaxy S, or Pixel. Additionally, the display supports HDR10 and HDR10+ but not Dolby Vision. Just like OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 7 Pro also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. As expected OnePlus 7 Pro doesn’t have a headphone jack and no USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is included. OnePlus 7 Pro has all display design so the selfie camera is a motorized module that pops up out of the top of the phone.

Camera

The camera is one sector where OnePlus devices are always lagging behind the other flagships. But this time OnePlus has come up with excellent camera setup. This time OnePlus has implemented triple rear camera set up in OnePlus 7 Pro. The main one is the Sony IMX586 48MP f/1.6 shooter with optical image stabilization. It is coupled with a 16MP, f/2.2 wide-angle camera with 117° field of view and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. OnePlus 7 Pro scored an impressive 111 in DxOMark camera test just one shorter than Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung S10 5G. Rear cameras can shoot up to 4k 60fps at ease. I can also shoot 240fps 1080P slow-mo video.

In the front, OnePlus has a 16MP, f/2.0 motorized pop-up camera. According to OnePlus, this motorized camera can be launched in 0.53 seconds. It is tested for 300000 times opening and closing which equates to 50 times a day for more than 16 years. The camera can detect dropping of the phone and can close itself automatically to avoid damaging.

OnePlus has said that they have introduced three different focusing systems for better and faster autofocus. For the better low light performance, OnePlus has also added the nightscape mode here.

Performance

Performance is always the strongest and the main selling point of the OnePlus devices. The general target of OnePlus is always to provide flagship grade performance at an affordable price. OnePlus devices are always the champion among Android phones when comes to speed. In OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus have not to compromise in this sector at all. OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC. It is made based on the 7nm node to increase the performance while keeping the power consumption low. Adreno 640 will handle all the graphics duty in OnePlus 7 Pro device.

OnePlus 7 Pro has three RAM variants which are 6GB or 8GB or 12GB. Along with 128GB or 256GB onboard storage. All three spec tiers utilize DDR4X memory and latest UFS 3.0 storage. It also has a RAM boost technology for better RAM management.

OnePlus 7 Pro has a 4000 mAh battery which can be fast charged via 30W WARP charger. According to the OnePlus, you can change your device 0 to 48{7612e6fcd35940926eef5d7bd8f0522b7c050df4dcd15667744be5e37897c111} in just 20 min. It also introduces 10 layers of liquid cooling. OnePlus has also replaced the weak vibrating motor of OnePlus 6T and added a new x-axis powerful vibrating motor for haptic feedback. OnePlus 7 Pro has introduced with dual front firing stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos. But it doesn’t have the 3.5mm headphone jack and surprisingly enough it doesn’t include the 3.5mm adapter in the box just like Apple. OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a dedicated gaming or performance mode called Fnatic mode which will also activate DND mode while gaming.

OS and Other Features

OnePlus 7 Pro comes with Oxygen OS on the top of Android 9.0 (Pie). Oxygen OS is known for fast response time and performance. This time even OnePlus has dropped the animation delay to make it faster. OnePlus has also promised 2 years of Android version update and 3 years of a security patch update. In the keynote, they have also mentioned that they will bring Android Q beta for OnePlus 7 Pro. This Android Q beta will also be available for OnePlus 6 and 6T too. OnePlus will also introduce some regionally based features too.

With the OnePlus 7 Pro, now you can record the internal audio at the time of screen recording. Thanks to the screen recording feature from OnePlus itself. OnePlus 7 Pro has dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Pricing and Availability

OnePlus is selling the 7 Pro in three configurations: a 6GB RAM / 128GB storage model for $669, an 8GB / 256GB version for $699, and a top-of-the-line 12GB / 256GB model for $749. It will initially be available in either a glossy black finish or a matte blue color, while a gold-toned model will be available at a later date. While in India the 6/128GB variant for ₹ 48,999; 8/256GB for ₹ 52,999 and 12/256GB for ₹ 57,999 will go for sale on 17th May on Amazon. While it will be available on OnePlus exclusive shops from today.

What is missing

Of course, the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing. But here I am talking about the flagship features that are not available in OnePlus 7 Pro. When you are paying almost $700 then you naturally expect flagship features also. In OnePlus 7 Pro, it doesn’t have an IP rating or any Wireless charging capability. OnePlus has said that the IP certification is expensive to get that increase the price and wireless charging is still not fast enough for implementation. But people may think differently.

If budget is your concern then you might go for the smaller OnePlus 7 but OnePlus 7 is only available in Europe and Asia. Sure OnePlus has increased the price of OnePlus 7 Pro but hey, it is still way cheaper than similarly equipped Apple or Samsung devices. Although it has a higher price than its predecessors, OnePlus 7 Pro’s price will be justified if it can deliver the advertised performance.
