AMD Unveils 3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 In Computex

Source: AMD

AMD announced their most awaited 3d gen Ryzen 3000 series CPUs in Computex 2019. Ryzen 3000 is based on 7nm processing node and up to 12 cores 24 threads. AMD also released X570 chipset along with the CPUs.

What Is Special About These CPUs?

In Computex this year AMD launched a total of five CPUs. All this CPUs are ranging from 6 cores 12 threads to 12 cores 24 threads. This Ryzen 3000 CPUs are based on the lastest 7nm processing node technology. AMD also unveiled Zen 2 architecture for these Ryzen 3000 CPUs. But CPUs still maintain support for the old AM4 sockets. But if you want to take advantage of PCIe 4.0 then you have to use the latest motherboard based on X570 chipset.

Ryzen 3000 CPUs double the floating points and increase the IPC 15%. All this impressive improvement is possible because of 7nm processing node and Zen architecture.

What Zen 2 Architecture Brings Into The Table

Ryzen 3000 series CPUs are based on the new Zen 2 architecture which made possible by the TSMC’s latest and greatest 7nm FinFET technology. AMD has made significant changes to their CPU architecture which help deliver twice the throughput of their first generation Zen architecture. AMD  entirely redesigned execution pipeline, doubled the available floating point registers to 256-bit and double bandwidth for load/store units. One of the major upgrades of the Zen 2 architecture is the doubling of the core density which means 2x the core count for each core complex (CCX).

Classification Of The CPUs In Detail

1. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

AMD Ryzen 7 3700x is an 8 cores 16 threads processor based on the 7nm Processing node. It is built on Zen 2 architecture. AMD claims because of these architectural improvements Ryzen 7 3700X performs 15% better in a single thread and 18% better in multi threads than last gen Ryzen 7 2700x. AMD markets Ryzen 7 3700X as the competitor of Intel core i7.

ryzen 7 2700x vs ryzen 7 3700x performance

. In a stage demo, AMD benchmarked the  Ryzen 7 3700X against the Intel Core i7 9700k in Cinebench R20. Ryzen 7 3700X wins by 1% in single thread performance and by 28% in Multi-thread performance. But all these tests have done in AMD controlled environment. It should also be noted that the Intel Core i7 9700k is a 95W TDP CPU while Ryzen 7 3700X is only 65W.

2. AMD Ryzen 7 3800X

In AMD’s word, the Ryzen 7 3800X is the ultimate 8 core processor. It is based on the same 7nm FinFET technology with a base clock of 3.9 GHz and a boost clock of 4.5 GHz. It has 8 cores and 16 threads. It is also built on the latest Zen 2 architecture. It has a TDP of 105W.

According to AMD Ryzen 7 3800x performs 1% better than the Intel Core i9 9900k in single threads and 2% better in multi-thread. But the price of Ryzen 7 3800X is $89 lesser than Intel one. Ryzen 7 3800X performs anywhere from 14% to 34% better than last gen Ryzen 7 2700X in various games.

3. AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

AMD pushed the consumer CPU core count up to 12 cores and 24 threads with the launch of the Ryzen 9 3900X. It is also built on 7nm processing node and Zen 2 architecture with 105W TDP and 3.8 GHz base and 4.5 GHz boost clock.

According to AMD, Ryzen 9 3900X performs 2% better in a single thread and 60% better in multi-thread against Intel Core i9 9900k in Cinebench R20. Aganist Intel Core i9 9920X, Ryzen 9 3900X performs 16% better in Cinebench R20. But the price difference between Core i9 9920X  and Ryzen 9 3900X is huge. The Core i9 9920X retails at for almost $1200 while the Ryzen one will retail for $499.

4. Ryzen 5 3600 And 5. Ryzen 5 3600X

Both Ryzen 5 3600 and 3600X is 6 core and 12 threads processor. Based on the 7nm processing node and Zen 2 architecture. The Ryzen 5 3600X is clocked at 3.8 GHz base and 4.4 GHz boost with a TDP of 95W and has 35 MB of cache onboard. The Ryzen 5 3600, on the other hand, has a 3.6 GHz base clock and a 4.2 GHz boost clock with a TDP of 65W & the same number of the cache. The price is $199 for Ryzen 5 3600 and $249 for Ryzen 5 3600X.

Conclution

Ever since the release of first Ryzen, AMD provided amazing value for money among the computer builder. Ryzen CPUs performs neck to neck sometimes better in productivity against the rival Intel CPUs. But one sector where it lacked behind the Intel CPUs was the single core performance. That’s why Intel CPUs always performs better than Ryzen CPUs in gaming, thanks to the better base and boost clock.

But with the launch of Ryzen 3000 series, it looks like the difference is narrowed down or better say vanishes. If the initial numbers are correct then first time since 2003 AMD is technically ahead of Intel. It’s hard not to be excited about the advancements AMD has made with the third-gen Ryzen chips, not to mention the platform. But we have to wait till July 7, 2019, to get a hand on these CPUs. Meantime if we find any new information we will keep updating this article.
