Google Suspends Business With Huawei: Pulls Support Over Android OS Update

google ban busniess with Huawei

Following a blacklist order from US Govt last week, now Google is reportedly suspending business with Huawei. As a result of this suspension, future Huawei devices won’t have access to any Google services, including the Play Store. Reuters claims Google has suspended transactions with Huawei that require transferring proprietary hardware and software.

This move from Google will ensure that Huawei device will not receive any future Android update. Huawei will only able to use the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). That means Huawei will only able to push security update to their devices only when they are available in AOSP.

But for now, current Huawei devices will not be affected by this change. Play Store and other Google apps will work fine in these devices. Although Popular Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube and the Chrome browser that are available through Google’s Play Store will not be available for future Huawei handsets as those services are not covered by the open source license and require a commercial agreement with Google.

This announcement will not affect that much to the Chinese market. Because in China Google apps are banned anyway. Alternative of those apps offered by the Baidu and Tencent. However, this suspension from Google will affect Huawei’s Market in Europe. Europe is the second biggest market for Huawei which helped to become the second biggest smartphone maker.

What Backup Plan Huawei Has?

Huawei has been preparing itself for this type of event for more than six years. Huawei is developing the OS for their mobiles and tablets. The OS is called Kirin OS. Surely Huawei is capable of developing their own OS. But for Android and iOS millions of apps available for download so Huawei will have to build its app ecosystem from the ground up. Such a move will hinder the company’s sales, at least until it has developed its app ecosystem sufficiently to mirror Android’s.

And their own OS will create more scrutiny and controversy. In whatever way you look at it, this decision is definitely a big blow for Huawei. If the blacklist remains permanent, then Huawei has to release their own OS faster than you may expect.
