Recently Indian govt banned 59 Chinese apps. TikTok was one of them. At the time of the ban, TikTok had a huge user base in India. So after the ban, many Indian apps offering similar features have seen immense growth in the past few days. Now it looks Instagram wants to grab a pie of this huge user base. That’s why Instagram is testing Reels in India.

According to Busniess Insider, some users have started receiving the new Instagram update that brings Reels. This feature is already debuted in Brazil and recently expanded to France and Germany.
Similar to TikTok, Reels allows users to make 15-second videos with audio clips and add them to Stories, post them on their feed, or even DM them. The feature is available in the camera icon on the top left corner that lets users record Stories. The video clips that get a lot of traction and go viral or start trending, will be featured on a separate page under Top Reels.
After the TikTok ban, many TikTok influencers are shifting to Facebook and YouTube. For them, it can be a good alternative to TikTok. In a statement given to Business Insider, a Facebook spokesperson said, “We are planning to start testing an updated version of Reels in more countries.” The spokesperson also added “No further plans to share on launch date or countries for now.”
