Microsoft Unveils New Windows Command Line App

The Windows command line tool is about to get a fresh look. Microsoft announced Windows Terminal, a command line tool, today at build conference at Seattle It will be a little bit prettier and lot more personal. It’s designed to be the central location for access to environments like PowerShell, Cmd, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). It is expected to arrive at mid-June.

Windows Terminal will have multiple tabs, themes and customization option for developers who want to tweak the Terminal app. It will also support emojis and GPU-accelerated text rendering. This is an effort from Microsoft to make the Windows platform a little more developer friendly.

As of now, Windows Terminal will not replace the existing command line tool but Microsoft is considering to make it default in future.
