2020 is a disastrous year for most of us. But it couldn’t be worse for Chinese tech giant Huawei. Huawei is getting banned left and right from many countries over the alleged involvement Chinese government in the company. Sweden becomes the latest county to ban Huawei from selling 5G equipment in its telecom network.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority or PTS said that companies will have up to 2025 to remove all equipment made by Huawei and ZTE from their network. PTS also said that they have taken this decision after the assessment from the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Security Service.

Now Sweden has joined the United States, Australia, the U.K., and France to ban and purge all equipment made by Huawei and ZTE in their 5G infrastructure. European governments have been reviewing the role of Chinese companies in building their networks following pressure from the United States.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian accused Sweden of using “national security as a pretext to slander Chinese companies, openly oppress Chinese telecom companies, and politicize normal economic cooperation.” He added, “Sweden should uphold an objective and fair attitude, and correct its wrong decision, to avoid bringing a negative impact to China-Sweden economic and trade cooperation and the operations of Swedish enterprises in China.”
