A few weeks back Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) ordered the e-commerce player in India to show ‘Country of Origin’ tag in their product. Now Amazon India has told sellers they must provide country of origin information on product listings by August 10.

Amazon said in the mail, “Please ensure that the information added by you is accurate and updated at all times, as you will be solely responsible to ensure accuracy. Failure to provide information in the country of origin attributed to August 10, 2020, may lead to enforcement action.”

One thing to note that Govt has not given any deadline to the e-commerce companies to comply with the rule. A senior official told ET, “If someone is deciding to become compliant with the rules before any deadline, there’s nothing wrong with that. But there has been no mandate with respect to this.”
