Android Studio Will Stop Support For 32-bit PC This Year

google will not support 32-bit android studio

Android Studio is Google’s integrated development environment (IDE) offering for Android App development. It is a very powerful tool. But if you are the one who has used it then you may agree that it is a RAM hungry application. Google is trying to make it stable and consistent through their project called Marble initiative. As a part of this project, Google will deprecate support for 32-bit operating systems in Android Studio by the end of next year.

16 years ago first 64-bit processor came into the market to address one of the biggest shortcomings of the 3the 2-bit system that is it doesn’t support RAM over 4 GB. And as you know running Android studio on 4GB RAM is really a challenge. You should use at least 8 GB RAM if not 16 GB.   In order to make use of all that RAM, you’ll need a 64-bit operating system and 64-bit version of Android Studio. Therefore, Google will depreciate 32-bit OS support at the end of this year and will completely end support at the end of next year.

Android Studio IDE 3.6 will be the last version to work on 32-bit systems, but Google will still provide you product support until December 31, 2020. After that date, Google will remove all downloading links. Android Emulator 28.0.25 will be the last 32-bit version, and support for that ends on the same day.

Google has written its blog post, “To minimize the impact of this change towards exclusively supporting 64-bit operating systems, we will first deprecate the 32-bit version. During the depreciation phase, both Android Studio and the Android Emulator will continue to work but the products will not receive new feature updates.”

Developers will have to move to 64-bit version anyway. Because from August 1st, 2019, developers will need to make a 64-bit version of their app to publish in Google Play Store.  To do so developers will need the 64-bit version of Android Studio.
