Apple iPhone 13 Will be Slightly Thicker With Bigger Camera Bumps

The upcoming iPhone 13 series will be slightly thicker than the 12 series and feature bigger camera bumps. MacRumors has reported that they have come across the iPhone 13 schematics and they have confirmed the same.

According to the leaked schematics, Apple iPhone 13 will be 7.57mm, an increase from 7.4mm in the ‌iPhone 12‌ models. But it is very unlikely that you will notice this 0.17mm increase. However, the camera bump won’t go unnoticed. While the iPhone 12 series camera bump ranges from 1.5mm to 1.7mm, the iPhone 13 will have a 2.51mm camera bump. Meanwhile iPhone 13 Pro will feature a 3.65mm camera bump.

Apple is also changing the size of the camera bump. The camera bump in iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro measures at around 28mm by 30mm, while the ‌iPhone 13‌ will have a square camera bump at around 29mm by 29mm. It will also be about a millimeter closer to the top of the iPhone. The ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro is expected to gain a larger camera bump, measuring around 36mm by 37mm.

The increased camera bump could be due to the camera hardware upgrade. Both the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro and 13 Pro Max could get sensor-shift stabilization for both the Wide and Ultra-Wide lenses which explains the larger camera bump. While the iPhone 13 may not get the sensor-shift stabilization, but it is expected to have a LiDAR sensor.

Reports suggest that this year iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max may have the same camera hardware. Upgraded telephoto lens from iPhone 12 Pro Max could also be included in both iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

The thickness increase could be due to an increase in battery size. This year iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are said to feature 120Hz LTPO OLED screens from Samsung and Snapdragon X60 5G modems from Qualcomm. Both of them will more battery hungry than the current generation solution. So it is natural for Apple to increase battery size.
