Pegatron is Planning to Open New iPhone Manufacturing Plant in India

Apple’s second-largest contract manufacturer Pegatron is looking to expand its operation in India. Pegatron has recently registered a subsidiary in Chennai, India. This decision has come at a time when Apple has ordered its contractor to diversify its production in the view of the US-China trade war.

Pegatron is a Taiwanese electronics company that specializes in manufacturing computing, communications, and consumer electronics. “Currently, the company’s officials are in discussions with multiple state governments to find land to set up factories after which they would import plant and machinery,” a government official told ET.

Pegatron is one of three global makers of iPhones for Apple. The other two makers Wistron and Foxconn are already present in the country. Foxconn and Wistron are too looking for expanding their operation in India. Recently Foxconn announced that it will invest $1 billion to expand its manufacturing capacity at its Sriperumbudur factory.
