Realme has disrupted the mobile phone market in India with its low-price high performing phone. It is already the top five mobile brand in India. Realme today launched Realme X in India. Back in May, it was launched in China. The main selling point of Realme X is the notch-less design, pop-up selfie camera, the promise of fast charging. The new Realme phone is designed to target the likes of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Vivo Z1 Pro, Samsung Galaxy M40, and the upcoming Redmi K20 smartphone.
Realme X Specification
Design:
The Realme X features a 6.53 inch AMOLED display with 2340*1080 pixel resolution and 394 ppi pixel density. The bezels are thinner than what we saw on the Realme 3 Pro. It has an impressive 91.2% screen to body ratio. But to achieve this ratio Realme has not introduced any notch or punch hole camera in Realme X. Instead Realme has introduced a motorized pop-up camera in Realme X.
Realme X has an in-display fingerprint sensor. Which allow Realme to have a cleaner look at the back. At the back, you will find a vertical dual camera setup near the centre of the panel and the Realme logo on the bottom. Although the back panel is made of plastic rather than glass. Which may disappoint some people who feel the glass is more premium.
The power button is placed on the right side and has a yellow accent on it. And above that, you find the sim card tray which can hold dual nano sim. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer any MicroSD card support. The left side of the frame has the volume keys. At the bottom, you find the type-C port charging, speaker grill and yes the good old 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone weighed 191 grams.
Camera:
The camera is one of the biggest selling points of Realme X. It features a 48MP camera Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.7 aperture at the back. Which is pretty common in terms of 2019 trend. The primary 48MP camera is coupled with a 5MP depth-sensing camera. The 48MP camera by default shoots at 12MP and use pixel binning technology to combine four 12MP images to create high res, clear and brighter image. You can also switch to the 48MP mode in Settings by selecting the 4:3 (48MP) option to shoot high-res raw photos.
The selfie camera is housed in the motorized pop-up mechanism. The selfie shooter is a 16MP f/2.0 camera. This sensor also supports pixel binning, with an output resolution of 8MP. Realme claimed that the selfie cam only takes 0.74-sec pop up for 200,000 times which is equivalent to 50 pop up a day for 10 years. The pop camera can detect a fall and closes automatically.
The main camera also supports slow-motion video recording up to 960fps at 720p. The 960fps mode, however, will only let you capture a short 3-second video which is then converted into a 10-second slow-mo video. But because of the lack of a powerful processor Realme X actually converts 240fps video to 960fps video. So don’t expect a super quality here.
Internal:
Realme X is powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 710 octa-core SoC. Some people were expecting it to have a Snapdragon 730, so some people may feel disappointed. Snapdragon 710 is based on 10nm FinFET technology. So it is a power-efficient chip but lacks behind the efficiency of the 8nm based Snapdragon 730 SoC. Qualcomm Adreno 616 GPU handles all the GPU heavy lifting in the Realme X. Which is good enough for running games like PUBG and Asphalt 9.
Realme X has the LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 flash storage for high-speed data write and read. Realme X is paired with 4GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB storages for both RAM options. This much internal storage compensates for the lack of support for microSD card.
Realme X houses a 3,765mAh capacity battery. Realme X supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging and you will get a 20W charger with the box. The phone will charge up zero to 85 per cent in just 60 minutes.
Software:
Realme X runs on Color OS 6 based on Android 9 Pie. Color OS brings many extra features with it. It brings feature like an app drawer, optimized power consumption, the Clone Apps feature for multiple instances of messaging apps, and an automatic call recorder. Swiping right on the home screen will bring you Smart Assistant, which is where you will find cards relevant for the day like calendar, weather, quick apps steps tracker and more.
Price:
The smartphone goes on its first sale on 24th July 2019 via Flipkart with the 4GB/128GB variant priced at ₹16,999 (~$250) and the 8GB/128GB variant priced at ₹19,999 (~$290). Also, Realme has launched the Spider-Man: Far From Home edition that was announced globally last month. The special edition handset comes with a price tag of Rs. 20,999 and will be offered in a single 8GB + 128GB variant. The company will also be offering the Naoto Fukasawa collection of the Realme X with Garlic and Onion finishes that comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration at a price tag of Rs. 19,999.
