Zoom Says It Has Stopped Sending User Data To Facebook

In an earlier post, we have discussed how Zoom is sending data to Facebook even if the user doesn’t have an account on Facebook. When the reporters contacted Zoom they didn’t take it seriously. But after the story published, they started damage control.

“Zoom takes its users’ privacy extremely seriously. We originally implemented the ‘Login with Facebook’ feature using the Facebook SDK for iOS (Software Development Kit) in order to provide our users with another convenient way to access our platform,” said the company.

They also said, “The information collected by the Facebook SDK did not include information and activities related to meetings such as attendees, names, notes, etc., but rather included information about devices such as the mobile OS type and version, the device time zone, device OS, device model and carrier, screen size, processor cores, and disk space.”

Zoom also announced that they will remove Facebook SDK. The company said, “We have reconfigured the feature so that users will still be able to log in with Facebook via their browser. Users will need to update to the latest version of our application that’s already available at 2:30 p.m. Pacific time on Friday, March 27, 2020, in order for these changes to take hold, and we strongly encourage them to do so.”

Zoom has apologized for the incident and wanted to ensure the customer that this will never happen again.

The whole incident sounds similar. Well, it is apparently. Every time every other company has done anything like this or worse than this, they just did the same. They apologize to the customer and ensures that they will not do anything like that ever again. I just wanna say that companies never compromises user privacy in the first place. In that way, they will never have to go through the procedure anyway.
