AMD has unveiled their Radeon 6000 series GPU to take on Nvidia’s recently launched 3000 series GPUs. These GPUs are based on the newer RDNA2 architecture. AMD announced a total of three GPUs which are Radeon 6800, 6800XT, and 6900XT. Radeon 6000 series GPUs are built upon 7nm processing technology from TSMC and it promises to deliver a huge performance bump over the last-gen GPUs.
AMD Radeon 6000 Series Specification
Radeon 6900XT
AMD Radeon 6900XT is the flagship card of 6000 series GPUs. It will be competing against Nvidia’s latest RTX 3090. The GPU will feature 80 Compute Units (5120 Stream Processors) and 16GB GDDR6 memory and 128 MB of Infinity Cache. AMD claims that the total board power of this SKU is just 300W, which is 50W lower than RTX 3090.
AMD Radeon 6900XT has 80 Ray Accelerators and 320 TMUs and 128 ROPs. With AMD’s own benchmark, Radeon 6900XT beats Nvidia RTX 3900 in few games while in other games it is neck to neck with the Nvidia counterpart. Although AMD has achieved this with the help of Rage Mode and Smart Access Memory. More on this later.
In comparison to Nvidia’s RTX 3900 24GB memory, AMD has opted for 16GB memory for their top tier card which helps them reduce the cost compared to RTX 3090 while offering almost the same performance. The card will cost $999 and will be available from December 8th.
Radeon 6800XT
Next, we have AMD Radeon 6800XT which is aimed to compete with Nvidia’s RTX 3080. The graphics card features the 2015 MHz game clock and 2250 MHz boost clock. Radeon 6800XT has 72 Compute Units or 4608 Stream Processors. It has 16GB GDDR6 memory and a 256-bit memory bus and it also features 128MB of Infinity Cache. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT also packs 72 Ray Accelerators which are dedicated to real-time raytracing workloads. The GPU has a total TBP of 300W which is 50W less than Nvidia’s RTX 3080.
According to AMD, the Radeon 6800XT performs better in the 1440P titles compare to Nvidia’s RTX 3080 and that too by consuming less power than the Nvidia one. The card is priced at $649 and it will be available starting from November 18.
Radeon 6800
Radeon 6800 is the cheapest of the three models released by AMD. It has 60 Compute Units or 3840 Stream Processors and will feature 60 Ray Accelerators, 96 ROPs, and 240 TMUs. The card comes with 16GB of GDDR6 memory and 128MB of Infinity Cache. The SKU features an 1815 MHz game clock frequency and 2105 MHz boost clock frequency.
The AMD Radeon 6800 will go head to head against Nvidia’s RTX 3070. Although AMD has compared it against the RTX 2080Ti. According to AMD, this model will be faster in most games at 4K/60 FPS gaming. AMD announced that Radeon RX 6800 will launch on November 18th for a price of $579.
