Apple has unveiled its next-generation iPhones in an online event today. Apple has launched a total of four iPhones in today’s’ event. Among these four iPhones, the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 is more ‘budget-friendly’ option. For the first Apple has used ‘mini’ in the naming scheme of an iPhone.
In the previous generation, we have seen that Apple has cut corners in its budget segment by offering LCD panels in those models. But this time Apple has offered an OLED display for both iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 mini features a 5.4 inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The display has a 476ppi pixel density and the display can go up to 1200 nits in peak brightness. The display has retained the notch at the top but this time it smaller than the previous generation. The display is protected by the Ceramic Shield. The device has IP68 water and dust resistance.
iPhone 12 mini is powered by Apple’s custom Bionic A14 SoC. The SoC has six cores (two high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores) and four GPU cores and it is built on the TSMC’s cutting edge 5nm process. Apple claims A14 is 50 percent faster than the A13 chip. The chip is 5G capable as you might have expected. It supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G (which Apple calls Gigabit LTE).
At the back, iPhone 12 mini has a dual-camera setup consists of a 12MP f/1.6 wide-angle primary camera and a 12MP f/2.4 120° Ultra-Wide camera. The main shooter is capable of 4K video recording at 60 fps, Slo‑mo 1080p at 240fps. The mini includes Night Mode on both cameras, including Night Mode Time-lapse. Deep Fusion is also supported. At the front, it has a 12MP f/2.2 True Depth camera. It is capable of 4K video recording at 60 fps, Slo‑mo 1080p at 120fps.
As expected Apple has not mentioned the size of the battery rather mentioned that the battery will last up to 15 hours. Apple is also using the new MagSafe magnet system on the iPhone 12 mini. It supports wireless chargers (including Qi-enabled devices), case accessories, and even leather wallets that all snap onto the rear of the device.
As earlier reported, Apple will not ship any charger or earbud with the device. On the connectivity side, iPhone 12 mini has support for 5G (sub‑6 GHz), Gigabit-class LTE, 802.11ax Wi‑Fi 6 with 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC with reader mode, GPS with GLONASS.

The iPhone 12 features a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with 2532×1170 pixels resolution. The display has a pixel density of 460 and it can go up to 1200 nits at peak brightness. The display also supports HDR, Dolby Vision. The display is protected by the Ceramic Shield. The device has IP68 water and dust resistance.
All other features expect battery life is the same as the iPhone 12. iPhone 12 will last up to 17 hours with the included battery.
That essentially means iPhone 12 is nothing but an iPhone 12 mini with a bigger screen and bigger battery.
