TikTok’s parent company is preparing to set up a corporate entity in India. ByteDance is taking this step in order to strengthen its grip on Indian which is TikTok’s one of the most active markets globally.
This entity will provide Information Technology and IT-enabled services support to all of ByteDance’s platforms worldwide, including in India. According to a report by the Economic Times, ByteDance was expected to file a formal application with the government and regulators, including the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in the next few weeks.
“There will be data and technology transfer into India with ByteDance looking to ramp up its workforce in India, a market where the company will look to create a center of excellence over the near-term,” one of the sources told ET.
ByteDance’s new entity will also work on the content generated across its various platforms. This development is coming a few days after ByteDance’s decision to move out of China to avoid govt scrutiny. It should also be noted that due to tensions between India and China, there is a backlash against the Chinese goods in the country including apps developed in China. This entity will also help ByteDance portrait that they are not a Chinese company.
