Lisa Su: High-End Navi GPUs Are “On Track”

highend navi gpu is coming

During AMD’s recent second-quarter earnings call, AMD President and CEO Dr Lisa Su confirmed that high-end 7nm Navi-powered gaming graphics cards are on route. When she asked about the high-end Navi GPU she replied. “I would say they are coming. You should expect that our execution on those are on track, and we have a rich 7nm portfolio beyond the products that we have already announced in the upcoming quarters.”

AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 and 5700 XT graphics cards deliver an excellent price to performance ratio but they failed to compete against Nvidia’s top models. This is surely exciting news for the AMD and enthusiastic PC builders out there.

RX 5700 and 5700 XT is just the start of 7nm GPU era. For the first time after 2012 AMD abandon their GCN architecture because it has a limit of 64 compute units (CU) per chip. So with the launch of Navi GPU, AMD introduced the RDNA architecture to overcome those limitations. It should also be noted that the RX 5700 XT has only 40 compute unit (CU), so Navi GPUs has plenty of headroom for scale-up for higher performance.

The EEC listing, which was discovered by reputable leaker KOMACHI_ENSAKA, shows a ton of alleged Navi models. At this point in time, it’s very likely that most of the model names are placeholders, and not all of them will make it to the market. Nevertheless, it opens the door for a bit of speculation.

There is no information about when these cards will arrive. Whether it is later this year or next year is unclear. But the consumer will welcome these cards, no doubt in that.
