Next-gen Xbox arrives in Fall 2020: Ray Tracing, 8K Display, And More

During E3 Press Conference Microsoft reveals the details about their upcoming Xbox Console. The project codenamed “Project Scarlett” will be arriving on holiday in 2020. Rumors suggested that Microsoft will release two Xbox in 2020, one will be similar to current Xbox One X and another one will be powerful. Now we’re seeing the details about the next-gen powerful Xbox Console.

Specification:

Project Scarlett will use a custom CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 architecture. It will use the Navi GPU based on RDNA architecture. The Xbox will be able to support 8K visuals, “variable” 120Hz refresh rate, and “ultra-low latency input”. Scarlett will also support hardware-accelerated real-time Ray Tracing. According to Microsoft, it will be 4 times more powerful than the current Xbox One X.

The Scarlett will have next-generation SSD which will make load time a lot faster. Microsoft said loading times will be 40x faster than any current console. As Microsoft’s head of Xbox, Phil Spencer said,  “The console should be optimized for one thing and one thing only,” that is “Gaming”. Microsoft will use SSD as the “Virtual RAM” in Scarlett.

Like the current Xbox One console, Project Scarlett will be backward compatible and will support four generations of Xbox content – most likely, the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and next-gen. “With Project Scarlett, we continue our commitment to compatibility by ensuring your gaming accessories and Xbox career will also move forward with you, along with thousands of games across four console generations which will look and play best on Project Scarlett,” the company says.

Project Scarlett is similarly speced as Sony’s upcoming play station. The next-gen console from Sony will also feature 8K support, SSD storage, 8-core AMD Ryzen chip, 120Hz refresh rate, 3D audio, and more. We have wait a few months to see how the systems stack up against each other.
