Google Pixel 4 And 4XL Will Not Launch India: Here’s Why

Tuesday on an event Google launched their new flagship Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL. But Google has confirmed that their new flagship will not come in India. Although Google has not confirmed the reason behind it but reports are suggesting that Soli Chip inside the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL is the reason.

Soli Chip uses the 60 GHz, ISM band, to operate. According to the reports, Google had failed to acquire permission from the Indian Government to use the 60GHz mmWave frequency band — which is not permitted in India. Despite TRAI’s recommendation, 60 GHz is only permitted for Govt and Military work in India.

Soli Chip enables biometric authentication and many other features. Interesting its not just India but also other countries like Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico where Google has also failed to release Pixel 4 and 4XL for the same reason. But still, Google has decided not to release an alternative version of the device considering the limited feasibility of Project Soli. Even in the US only earlier this year the Govt approved 60 GHz.

“Google has a wide range of products that we make available in different regions around the world. We determine availability based on a variety of factors, including local trends, and product features. We decided not to make Pixel 4 available in India. We remain committed to our current Pixel phones and look forward to bringing future Pixel devices to India,” Google said in a statement.
