Govt Order Prohibiting Chinese Apps on Google Play Store, App Store is Fake: PIB

Amid India China border issue, the anti-china sentiment in Indians is very high right now. In this current situation, a social media message claimed that the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and IT has ordered Google Play Store and Apple App Store to restricts certain Chinese apps. It has now been clarified that the order is fake.

The PIB (Press Bureau of India) Fact Check, the government’s official fact-checker, has twitted that the order is fake. PIB said that neither the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) nor the National Informatics Centre has given such an order to Google or Apple. The order has been made to look pretty accurate that it forced many people to believe that it’s true.

The report falsely claims the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has directed the regional executive and representatives of Google India Pvt Ltd. and Apple India Pvt Ltd. to restrict the functioning of some Chinese Applications. The apps which were mentioned on the ‘order’ included TikTok, VMate, Vigo Video, LiveMe, Bigo Live, Beauty Plus, CamScanner, Club Factory, Shein, Romwe, Clash of Kings, Mobile Legends, AppLock and Game of Sultans.
